What We Believe
The Core Beliefs of Our Church
Scripture
The Holy Bible was written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and is God's revelation of Himself to humanity. God Himself is the author of this book, and its purpose is the redemption of humankind. Because it is completely true and without error, the Bible is trustworthy and reliable. It is the supreme standard and final authority for Christian faith and life.
God
He is the only true and living God. There is no other god besides Him. He is the creator and sovereign of the universe. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; three persons with unique attributes, but sharing the same nature, essence, or identity.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Jesus is equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. He is fully God and fully human, born of the Virgin Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity, and rose from the dead on the third day, conquering sin and death. He ascended to heaven in glory and is now our Intercessor, having completed His work of reconciliation and returning to judge the world.
Holy Spirit
The Spirit of God is the Holy Spirit. He inspired the biblical authors to write Scripture and gives people light and understanding of truth. He exalts Christ, convicts people of sin, and leads them to salvation through faith. People receive the Holy Spirit at regeneration. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows spiritual gifts for the edification of the church. He is the seal of salvation for believers, dwelling with them to make them more like Christ and empowering them for worship, evangelism, and service.
Humanity
Among all created things, humans are the most noble, for they are made in the image of God. Initially, humans were without sin and had free will, but they chose to disobey God, resulting in spiritual and physical death and separation from God. Due to their sinful nature and actions, humans cannot save themselves; only through the redemption of Jesus Christ can they be reconciled with God.
Salvation
Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone who believes in the Lord Jesus and makes Him their Lord is saved. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and humanity, and it is only through Him that one can come to the Father. God preserves His children until the end, and believers should also hold fast to the truth.
The Church
The church is composed of those who are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. Christ is the head of the church, and the church is His body, sent into the world to be His witness and to proclaim the gospel to all nations. Local churches are made up of believers who gather together for worship, prayer, fellowship, and teaching God's Word, as well as for the administration of baptism and the Lord's Supper. The governance of local churches should follow the principles of Scripture.
Baptism and the Lord's Supper
Jesus taught His disciples to remember His death and resurrection. He instituted two visible symbols as sacraments: baptism and the Lord's Supper. We believe Scripture teaches that immersion is the proper form of baptism. Believer's baptism is a one-time act of obedience, signifying one's identification with Christ. The Lord's Supper is an ongoing sacrament, commemorating Christ's death, burial, resurrection, and return. The sacraments themselves are not the means of salvation.
Sister Churches
We maintain fellowship with churches that hold to the same core beliefs, praying for one another, supporting each other, and working together in the Great Commission.
